WILDWORKS is looking for emerging artists to work in an arts in the community project taking place from January 15th to February 7th 2009.
WILDWORKS is an international theatre company based in Cornwall which produces unique landscape theatre and community projects. (For more company information see www.wildworks.biz).
WILDWORKS has been commissioned through an exciting new arts programme called FEAST to lead an ambitious art in the community project in a select few towns across Cornwall.
Each town project will be lead by a small team of experienced WILDWORKS practitioners. Working directly with members of the community we intend to gather memories, hopes and dreams for the future and, in response to this, create a series of interactive installations that will be open to the public, in February 2009. The theme of 'Travel Agencies' provides the opportunity to 'travel' into the past, the future, the imagination...
We are looking for emerging artists across Cornwall, who have very good making skills, are interested in or have experience in working across art-forms and a strong interest in working with communities.
The selected candidates will work under the guidance of experienced WILDWORKS artists. We would expect the selected artists to:
Be enthusiastic and sensitive when talking to members of the community.
Contribute ideas to the overall project.
Contribute to the making of the installation.
Be capable of working effectively both as individuals and as members of a small team.
Where possible we will be selecting artists who are local to the area in which the project is located. Project locations are: Liskeard, Bude, Wadebridge, St Austell, Penryn, Hayle and St Just.
The fee for the project is £1,000. You will be expected to work for a minimum of 13 days. In addition you will be expected to attend a training and CPD workshop on 15th and 16th of December, led by WILDWORKS, which will be an exciting opportunity to explore WILDWORKS methodologies and meet other artists.
Please send a letter of interest, a full CV and (if you have them) up to 5 images of your work, either on disk or as a hard copy to The Works, Crusader House, Newham Road, Truro TR1 2DP
Applicants will be shortlisted for interview, which will take place on 4th Dec 2008.

November 17, 2008
One of the world's leading subsea engineering companies has been appointed to manage the design, procurement and construction of the Wave Hub renewable energy project off the coast of South West England.
The South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) has selected J P Kenny, part of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC, as its engineering and management contractor for the project.
The RDA is leading the development of Wave Hub, which will create the world's largest wave energy farm 10 miles off the north coast of Cornwall.
Wave Hub will be an electrical 'socket' on the seabed connected to the National Grid via a subsea cable. With a capacity of up to 20MW, it will allow the pre-commercial testing of wave energy devices on a scale not seen before.
Four wave device developers are working with the RDA on the project, and it is anticipated that up to 30 devices could be deployed. Consents have already been obtained from the UK Government for the Wave Hub site.
J P Kenny was selected following a competitive tender process. There were 11 expressions of interest and three companies were shortlisted.
Stephen Peacock, the South West RDA's Executive Director of Enterprise and Innovation, said: "This is a great step forward for Wave Hub and puts the project back on track for deployment in 2010. We want South West England to lead the world in the development of marine renewable energy and we're delighted to have a company of J P Kenny's calibre on board."
Thelma Sorensen, chairman of the Cornwall Business Partnership, welcomed the announcement: "This is excellent news and further evidence of the RDA's commitment to develop a world class renewable energy sector that will bring huge economic benefits to Cornwall and the wider region. The private sector fully supports this project and it will underpin significant higher education developments in renewables research."
J P Kenny has almost 30 years of subsea engineering and project management experience and an excellent track record for controlling costs and managing risk. They will manage all aspects of the design, procurement and installation of Wave Hub and the onshore works on the RDA's behalf, including the selection of sub-contractors.
Gerwyn Williams, group managing director of J P Kenny, said: "J P Kenny is committed to supporting the development of renewable energy and we are honoured to have been selected by the RDA as their engineering and project management consultant for this crucial project."
J P Kenny will spend the next few months working on the concept designs for Wave Hub, progressing to detailed designs by May of next year. Wave Hub is expected to be installed and operational by 2010.
An independent economic impact assessment, commissioned by the RDA, has shown that Wave Hub could create 1,800 jobs and £560 million in the UK economy over 25 years. Almost 1,000 of these jobs and £332 million could be generated in South West England. - Website preview
This website is being previewed on 27 October 2008. This will be at 7.30pm in the Hayle Day Care Centre. - Hayle Archive now open
The Ellis Brewery Office has been saved from destruction and is now completely restored. The building now houses the town's official archive. John Pollard, Harvey's Foundry Trust Chairman and town councillor said that this was a 'double win for Hayle'. John particularly thanked Paul Stephens, represented by his son Chris, who is a descendent of the Ellis family and who purchased the Brewery Office, restored it and permitted the archive to take it over at a nominal rent.
